My cousin is married to an actor (I won’t name names, since no one would believe me anyway, haha). This fall, she is throwing a party for him, and I found out through another relative that she has already invited three family members here on the east coast. So far, my parents and I have not been invited. I’m very disheartened because the only reason why I desperately want to go is because I majored in journalism (she knows this) and truly believe it is a huge opportunity to get my foot in the door (NOT just to see celebrities).
My question is: Do I approach my cousin who is throwing the party and ask (subtley or point blank) why I/we weren’t invited? Is that bad etiquette? I feel it’s wrong she invited some, but not everyone. I’m afraid if I say nothing, I’ll regret it because I’m obsessing over this. Any advice would be wonderful. Thank you.

I want to go because it would be my foot in the door…if I went out to LA to a celebrity-filled party and didn’t walk away with at least one person who could find someone to hire me, I’d give up that dream altogether. So that’s why I want to go, not to be an annoying journalist and take pictures to sell to some magazine (it’s family for goodness’ sake, that’s a ridiculous thought). I want to go to get contacts (aside from seeing my cousins, obviously). And while I agree there are a lot of “stupid media” out there, I for one am certainly not lumped into that category.

What is wrong with some of you!? I clearly have stated my case and don’t think you read my additional details. Of course I want to see my cousins, which I pointed out, since I haven’t seen them in about four years. My whole point in this is yes, I want to seize the opportunity, as I’ve made clear, as well as visit my family, which I’ve also made clear. This site is a joke…thank you to those of you who’ve provided feedback, whether positive or negative, after reading my question in full.
